Heard: Veterans v Newbs

One day last week, I overheard one particularly brazen intern discussing life on the hill with what appeared to be a mother and daughter:

Intern: Yea, well I actually like just got here. It's been really cool though.
Mother: Oh? How long have you been in D.C.?
Intern: I've been here for four weeks. But really, 4 weeks on the job here makes you kinda a veteran.

No, no it doesn't. Because two years in, I'm still considered a newb. But, cheers to you, intern, and thanks for the DC Intern Blog fodder.

  1. Actually, in terms of being an intern, 4 weeks kind of does make him a veteran. Obviously, not in the overall scheme of things here on the hill or compared to full time staffers. But for a lot of interns, 4 weeks is 1/3 to 1/2 of their entire internship.

  2. Are these all summer internships? Or are they not so seasonal based?
