We all know that the Red Line is on the fritz, all the time, and it's almost always crammed during rush hour, right? Wrong. This morning, a young man got on the Red Line and yelled at everyone in the car to "move to the center of the car" because he "needed to get to work sometime today." Well none of us could yield to his rude request as we were already packed in so tight we may as well have been in a mosh pit. After no one moves he continues to irritate everyone on the car by thanking us, sarcastically, for not moving into the car. I looked over to give a warning glare, and what do I see, a red intern badge. Not only did he have the audacity to yell at everyone on the metro, but he continued to complain about how cramped it was and how he couldn't be sweaty when he got to work.
We all know you have an important job to do, carrying things in between buildings today, but if I were him, I would have kept my mouth shut.

False. And fail. You were cramped with nowhere to go precisely because you were not moving to the center of the car.
The intern was just doing what any normal non-sheeple would do and calling your bullsh!t.
Looks like we found the intern ^^^
Yeah, this is a common problem on the metro, everyone is crammed at the doors, half the time because some jerk is standing and blocking the aisle from people who would go down. It makes no sense to cram the doors and not get a little closer in the aisle. I've ridden the metro for 2.5 years now and pretty much always the aisle isn't that cramped even when people are bursting out the doors.
I think almondwine is the large dude that is pissed of at the world because his weight watchers diet is not working and cant get on the train because of his fupa. Im going with the logical assumption that the whole car was packed including the CENTER OF THE CAR. Thus resulting in no one moving for the silly baby intern who thinks that he is gods gift to earth. almondwine is clearly wrong in this instance.
Gonna have to side with almondwine on this. Other than the fact that the intern apparently engaged in a bit of self-inflation, it's people who engage in or put up with crowding by the doors during rush hour that are the real problems.
Not sure I can understand why anyone would be upset at someone for asking people to do what they should be doing anyway - like moving in to the friggin' center on the train...
No, you're either a fool or a troll. I've been living in the DC metro area since I started college in fall 2002 and yes, sometimes rush hour is so packed that trains get full even when people move to the center.
Or have you never done rush hour or been involved in Washington Nationals rush?
Anyone who travels DC metro knows this. So you're intentionally trolling, or you're new to DC, or you're just flat out ignorant.
Dear angry intern,
Blantantly rocking your badge outside of work will only bring you scorn. Shut up about the crowded metro and go seal some envelopes.
I'm going to have to agree with almondwine. I've been here 7 years and rush hour crowds frequently crowd around the doors. There is nothing more frustrating then seeing a large open space in the middle and being told by those around the doors that there is no room. It's a problem here and it was a problem in NY where I lived before moving here. It's always been one of my pet peeves.
LOL ZOMG RED LINEZ CROWDID!!11 FAULT = INTERNZ
I haven't taken the metro since the Red Line accident... but before that I know that people certainly crowded the area by the doors, leaving unoccupied areas in the center. It's very frustrating.
I've done this once myself, and we all should do it more often, given the solipsistic habit of people to crowd right by the damn metro doors. Tourists, interns, and college students are the worst about this for sure, but it's a problem that extends beyond them and which just amazes me. The single best and easiest thing that metro could do to improve its sad service would be to remove 90% of the seats in the cars and all of the glass partitions by the doors. Oh, and hire some people to push people on the trains like they do in Tokyo. News flash: other people exist.
Just try to get yourself to the middle of the car. Ranting like a baby does nothing. Newsflash: people stand by the doors because some of them want to get off soon. Others are idiots who could get in the middle but ranting will just make them defensive and they'll hold their ground.
I moved to DC from Boston and while I think DC is great, you guys really do not know how to cram a car like you should. I'm actually willing to put money down that that obnoxious intern was probably from Boston. You DCers also don't do enough yelling at each other to get the hell out of the way.
However, I'd really like to export the whole standing on the right side of the escalator thing to Boston. That ish is *fantastic*.
